Gabriella Brand’s writing has appeared in over fifty publications. Her most recent work can be found in The Globe and Mail, Grand Little Things, and Aromatica Poetica. She is a Pushcart Prize nominee. Gabriella lives near New Haven, Connecticut, where she teaches foreign languages. She is an avid hiker and canoeist. In normal times she travels whenever she can, usually on foot with a small backpack.

"I wrote this piece because, during the time of Covid, my travels have come to a halt. I think the people of the world need to keep discovering each other and the places where they live, the foods that they eat and the languages that they speak.
Much appreciation to my friends in Japan, particularly Michiko and the late Takeshi, whose open hearts and kindness have been a gift."
