Episode 243 - “Immortal Hands”
by Nefertiti DiCosmo
Those who came before, those who will come after.
Nefertiti is a poet and a life scientist for the federal government. Based in Indiana.
A Statement from Nefertiti:
"A year ago, driving home from work I was contemplating the purpose of life, as I often do and one thought led to another, and it hit me all at once. Evolution! Genetics! Progeny! Immortality! The Metaphor in the Lion King! I wrote it as soon as I got home!
My grandmother was a poet and I never got to enjoy poetry with her before she died because I never really made the time to and now that I’m old enough to appreciate that kind of connection, she is gone. But that poetic part of her still lives because I inherited it.
It is a gift inherited like a set of recessive genes that skip a generation.
I hope this poem helps listeners feel connected and thankful for the gifts passed on to them, passed on by them, passed on past them.
Art is the process of expressing what is most fascinating to you in whatever form it flows out of you. For me, it’s always been poetry and Existentialism."
