Episode 120 - “2020: I’m So Woke, I’m Tired” by Sophia Gutchinov
It's tiring.
Sophia Gutchinov is a multi-ethnic actress, performance artist, comedian, model, and voice over artist based in New York City.
During quarantine, besides creating comedy and #BLM art, she got certified as a spiritual fitness instructor for a practice called intenSati that she’s teaching digitally and socially distanced in person.
She loves creating through collaboration. She creates art that sparks a conversation and makes you laugh. Sophia also makes art for social change and healing. She has a production company with Lauren E. Butler called The Tadpoles.
Currently, she is creating pandemic-themed comedic sketches about grocery stores being the club you can’t go to, unemployment being the non-committal man in your life, and men’s quarantine pickup lines.
Currently, her #BLM art is on display in Chelsea at Hudson Guild.
Outside of quarantine life, Sophia can be seen and heard in:
In a Marvel production, called Marvels, alongside Method Man and AnnaSophia Robb, in a Walmart and starring in her comedic web series: How to New York.

A statement from Sophia:
"I started this piece when George Floyd was murdered. Why did it take the death of another unarmed black man at the hands of the police to start some reform? Silence is Violence. As an artist, we are called to action to reflect the world and our place in it. I was told I’m too white to be creating art right now and that this is not the time to be creating art. Well, I am bi-racial, (not trying to be a white savior), yet people still tell me what I am and am not, as if they know my lineage. I cannot be silent as a bi-racial artist and I choose to stand with humanity for the equality of all through my art.
This is a cut down version of my piece I created with the same name that can be seen on my IGTV and YouTube. This is a canvas I created on video with this voice over over it. I encourage you to check out the art that goes along with it, which includes my Dying Lady Liberty costume, #BLM bloody American flag from protesting, multiple ethnicities of Madonna and Children, doves, the scales of justice, a Black Jesus, a dream catcher, and more.
Thank you to my dear friend Candace Smith for making sure my writing was clear!"
